Q: Do you have parking spaces on site for guests?

We do not have parking on our property, but the surrounding streets are non-permitted and non-metered. The on-street spots tend to fill in during the work day, but come 4pm, you have your choice of spots — often right in front of our front door.

If you prefer secure parking, the nearby “Highline” and “Station Square” have parking options (a quick search and you can find their rates). Depending on which lot or garage you choose, it’s 1.5–2 miles away, and would involve walking the river trail, public transit bus, or a rideshare, back to our hotel.

Q: We plan on leaving our car in Pittsburgh for an extended period of time; where should the car be parked for that time period?

Because the streets surrounding the Rest are non-permitted and non-metered many guests chose to leave their cars parked right near the hotel for extended periods of time. Though a popular choice we have to reiterate that these are city streets so this option is done at your own risk.

If you prefer secure long-term parking, the nearby “Highline” and “Station Square” have parking options (a quick search and you can find their rates).

Q: My train arrives close to midnight; is it safe to ride a bicycle in the city so late?

Many guests have bicycled over to our spot from the Amtrak station at that time of night. It is fairly convenient and safe. We are a city that sleeps, so no one is on the road Downtown during that time, and the streets are well lit through the city. One tip: when you cross the Smithfield Street Bridge, stay on the pedestrian path on the EAST side of the bridge — this will help you avoid the medians on the south end of the bridge that can be hard to see at night.

Q: I’m arriving quite late; is it okay to check in later than my estimated arrival time?

We have a contactless check-in that allows you to arrive at any time within your stay window.

Q: May I cancel my reservation the day before I’m expected to arrive?

We’re sorry we won’t get to see you! You are permitted to cancel up to forty-eight (48) hours before your reservation date. We understand cancellations may be unavoidable which is why we maintain this policy, but please do keep in mind that we are a small, independently owned and operated business which relies on every booking.

If you are canceling your reservation sooner than forty-eight (48) hours before your reservation date you will not be able to reclaim your deposit but will not be charged for any dates of your stay past the forty-eight (48) hour cutoff.

Be aware that special offers and booking through a third party may alter this policy.

Q: Can we have an earlier than 4pm check-in?

Out check-in time is set to 4pm so that we have enough time to ensure that your stay is up to our standards. That said, if you can make your request at least two days before your reservation date, are willing to pay a $25 fee, and we believe it can can be done without sacrificing quality or safety, we’ll approve the request.

Q: Do you offer accommodations to travel nurses which might include discounts for extended stays?

Q: Do you rent bicycles or do you have a recommendation for securing a rental bicycle?

We have a small number of bicycles available to lend pending signing a release form, but if you want a brand new bicycle and/or an electric assist option you might contact Golden Triangle Bike Rental and inquire about what kind of options they have available during your stay. Let them know you're staying at The Rest and we may be able to arrange their dropping off the bicycle in our bicycle garage before you arrive, ready to go!

Finally, we recommend looking using local Pogoh bicycle system. Pogoh is Pittsburgh's version of the popular "CitiBikes" in New York City where you pay a service fee at a station, ride your bicycle to another station, and pay only for what you use. These bicycles also have the option to activate an electric assist for a fee. There is a Pogoh station only two blocks away from The Rest and there are stations throughout the city.

Q: May I mail a package to the Traveler’s Rest in anticipation of my stay? (Including bicycles)

Be aware that there are limitations to our storage space. If you are shipping, for example, 30 bicycles in anticipation of using our hotel as a launch location for your please give us a call ahead of time!

Q: I’m attempting to book a date to see a Steeler game, during a major holiday, or during a stadium concert but it appears you’re already booked up. Do you have anything available for these events?

We’re sorry for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused but while these days do book early you may still be in luck! We have a two night minimum policy for specific events. A list of these events and the affected dates can be found here.

Q: I booked an amenity through Expedia™, AirBNB™, Booking.com™, or another online travel agency. Could you please help me with a cancellation, change my amenity, process a refund, or otherwise change my booking?

A: We will do everything in our power to help, but in the end we are often unable to do much by way of processing changes to bookings make through online travel agents like Expedia™, AirBNB™, or Booking.com™. When you book through one of these partners you are agreeing to their Terms & Conditions which might include discounts, arrangements, or loyalty programs of which we are not made aware. We must direct you to contact the customer service associated with the online travel agent you made your booking through. Do keep us informed on your progress and good luck!

At the same time, please feel free to contact us at info@sstrpgh.com if you have a question about our amenities even if you arranged your booking through an online travel agent.

Q: I booked a reservation with a special discount offer but the final price doesn’t appear to reflect this discount?

The price reflected on the front page of our online booking system (as is industry standard) does not reflect the county and state taxes which we are required to charge. This is not intended to be a “bait and switch” but if we presented the full price our hotel would be downgraded in search results because all of our competitors would continue to present only their pre-tax price making us appear significantly more expensive. So, until regulations force the “All-In” price to be industry standard, we must continue to comply with the current industry standard.

Q: I booked three (or more) nights in the Bunker Bedroom but I don’t see the discount offered for this room?

The Bunker Bedroom is already offered as our budget option and so is priced as low as we can reasonably price it while still maintaining the quality of service we provide all of our guests. We’re sorry if this is an inconvenience.

Q: I forgot to make reservations and now see you are booked for the night I need; just double checking to see if you have anything open?

While it doesn’t hurt to ask, if our booking service says we have no rooms available it is very likely we are without vacancy. We’re sorry we missed you this time but encourage you to stay with us next time!
